Planning & Development

The mandate of the Planning and Development Department is to provide advice and recommendations to Council on planning and economic development matters, including long range planning, economic development and tourism, development control and building inspection.

Planning & Development

Provides information and advice on the policies of the Mount Pearl Municipal Plan and Development Regulations, assists the public in processing amendments, provides advice on re-designations and re-zonings and helps with the application processes, undertakes planning and development research, as well as reviews and makes recommendations on all development applications (residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and subdivision).

Economic Development & Tourism

Provides economic development information and opportunities supporting business attraction and retention.  Through engagement and partnerships with the local business community, various levels of government and community organizations, this division focuses on improving the economic well-being and quality of life for our citizens, visitors and businesses.  This division also facilitates and promotes tourism related events and initiatives in the City. Inspection Services & Property Standards

Provides inspection services and building permit reviews on residential, commercial, institutional and capital works projects for conformance with the building regulations, National Building Code, ancillary codes and applicable regulations.  City Inspectors are responsible for ensuring that properties are in compliance with the Occupancy and Maintenance Regulations. Read how the inspection process works and what permits you need.

Municipal Enforcement

Our Municipal Enforcement Officers actively enforce traffic and parking regulations, as well as other City policies and by-laws to keep our neighborhood safe.
