Municipal Awareness Day

May 8

Municipal Awareness Day is a day that focuses on providing awareness around the services municipalities provide to its residents.

The City of Mount Pearl is hoping to give residents a look inside the world of local government and provide us the chance to reach out to engage our youth – as they will become the next generation of community leaders, municipal administrators and taxpayers.

The following activities are planned around the City for Municipal Awareness Day, Wednesday, May 8th, 2019:

Grade 3 Presentation and Colouring Contest:

  • St. Peter’s Primary, Morris Academy and Mary Queen of the World are invited to participate in a colouring contest. The grade 3 classes will receive a giant colouring page to complete as a group, and once submitted, the artwork will be on display in City Hall for employees to cast their vote. The winning class from each school will receive a class swimming and pizza party at the Summit Center.
  • Each class will also receive a visit from the Mayor and the Superintendent of Municipal Enforcement where they will talk about Municipal Awareness Day and engage students to discuss what the word “community” means to them.

High School Geography Presentation:

  • Our Manager of Planning will be visiting a high school Geography class to raise awareness of Municipal Planning and the role it plays in building communities.

  • Two lucky children will get to be an officer for a day on Wednesday, May 8th.  They will have the opportunity to job shadow an MEO and RNC officer for the day. There will be a ceremony at City Hall at 9:30am to start the day.

  • Curious what a street sweeper, loader or City tractor looks like up close? The team from Infrastructure and Public Works will have equipment on display at the upper Glacier parking lot. Have your photo taken in one of these hard working vehicles and speak with staff about what is involved in their day-to-day.
