Fall 2020 Swimming Lessons

Fall 2020 programs will run from September 13 to October 31, 2020.

Lesson Changes/Updates

Please refer to the following changes to Lesson Levels:

  • Red Cross Swim – Parent & Tot (Starfish, Duck, Sea Otter): Will not be offered at this time.
  • Red Cross Swim – Preschool (Sea Turtle, Salamander, Sunfish, Crocodile, Whale):  A caregiver is always required to be in the water.  The Caregiver aged 19+ must be comfortable in chest-deep water and able to hold the participant as needed as they practice skills.  Normally, this would be handled by the Instructor; however, staff are required to maintain 6 feet of physical distancing unless in case of emergency.
  • Red Cross Swim – School Age Level 1 to 5: A caregiver is always required to be in the water.  The Caregiver aged 19+ must be comfortable in chest-deep water and able to hold the participant as needed as they practice skills.  Normally, this would be handled  by the Instructor; however, staff are required to maintain 6 feet of physical distancing unless in case of emergency. Each child should have their own caregiver assigned.  Class size has been reduced to accommodate caregivers.
  • Red Cross Swim – School Age Level 6 to 10: Class size has been reduced
  • Red Cross Swim – Adult Beginners: Will not be offered at this time.
  • Red Cross Swim – Adult Intermediate and Advanced: No change. Lessons will be spread out so that physical distancing can be maintained. Instructors will respond in case of emergency.
  • Red Cross Swim – Private Lessons: At this time Private Lessons will only be available for levels 6 and up.
  • Leadership Courses (Water Safety Instructor, Nationals, Bronze Cross etc): Will not be offered during this time (Sept/Oct). Names will be taken for next upcoming course by calling the Aquatics Office at 748-1007. For courses interrupted during closure, you will be contacted with a plan in place.

 

COVID Protocols

In consultation with the Canadian Red Cross Learn to Swim Program and Newfoundland and Labrador COVID-19 restrictions, the following guidelines have been developed:

  • Instructors are required to maintain physical distancing unless in case of emergency.
  • Equipment will be available for classes and will be disinfected before and after each use.
  • Participants will be assigned their own equipment to use for the duration of their daily class.
  • Equipment is not to be shared between participants.
  • Change rooms will be assigned, prior to classes beginning Aquatics staff will be in contact to assign you.
