NOTICE: JAPANESE BEETLE
The City of Mount Pearl is asking residents to be on the lookout for the presence of Japanese Beetles in our area.
What You Can Do:
- Watch for Japanese beetles in your gardens, lawns, and green spaces. These beetles are small, with a metallic green body and bronze-colored wings.
- If you spot one, capture it in a jar if possible.
- Report sightings immediately by calling the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) at 1-800-442-2342.
- You can also submit photos of suspected beetles through the CFIA website.
Why It Matters:
Japanese Beetles are an invasive pest that can spread rapidly through wind or the movement of soil and plant material. They feed on over 300 plant species and have no natural predators in our region.
They pose a serious threat to:
- Agriculture
- Horticulture
- Landscaping
- Forestry
- Lawns, sports fields, and golf courses
Your cooperation is essential to help protect our environment and economy from this destructive pest.
