Power Conservation Update

In response to the Power Warning issued by Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, the City of Mount Pearl is taking steps to reduce pressure on the provincial power grid.

To help conserve energy while maintaining essential services, the City has switched the Public Works Depot to generator power.

To further support conservation efforts, City recreation facilities—including the Glacier, Summit Centre, Gloria Pearson Community Centre, and Park Place—will close at 8:00 PM on January 24 2026 and will remain closed until Newfoundland Labrador Hydro advises that the risk of rolling blackouts has passed.

Residents and businesses can also help by taking the following conservation steps:

  • Turning down the thermostats
  • Reducing the use of appliances
  • Turning off non-essential lights
  • Reducing hot water usage

We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the community as we work together to support grid stability.
