How do I apply for a job with the City of Mount Pearl?
Positions that are open to the public are advertised on the City’s website. Applications will only be received for advertised positions. Applicants are advised to complete an application for employment and submit a cover letter and resume before the competition closing date as follows:

How often are new job postings added?
New postings are added on an ongoing basis, as positions become available.

Will my application remain on file for future job competitions?
Each competition is considered separately. Please reapply for any future competitions you are interested in.

What documentation may be required?

  • Certificate of Conduct with vulnerability sector check in good standing from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, Royal Canadian Mounted Police or relevant police authority, issued within the last 45 days
  • Academic Degrees, Diplomas and/or Certificates
  • Training certificates or licenses
  • Driver’s License with the required class
  • Recent Drivers Abstract from Motor Vehicle issued within the past 30 days
  • Successful completion of an employment medical including alcohol and drug screening, an audiogram and/or specific job related testing.
  • Signing a Confidentiality Agreement

Does an application need to be submitted in order to apply?
Yes, the City of Mount Pearl requires all fields of the application be completed. Please note, by submitting an application, you are certifying that the information you provided is true and complete.

Does the City of Mount Pearl accept paper applications?
Yes, paper applications are accepted.

How are applicants assessed?
All applicants are given equal consideration and are assessed relative to their abilities, knowledge, skills and qualifications as listed in the job posting/description. Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge.  Candidates who are selected for testing may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

How long does the selection process take?
Screening begins after the competition closing date. Most competitions are completed within 6-8 weeks.

Will I be notified if I am not selected for an interview?
We appreciate and thank all applicants for their interest in employment with the City of Mount Pearl; however only those individuals selected for an interview will be contacted.

How do I know the status of a competition?
The status of each competition is listed on the employment page.

What types of references should I provide?
Employment related references are required including your current employer. In situations where there may be sensitivity in contacting the current employer please advise Human Resources. If this is your first job, volunteer or teacher references are acceptable.

Will references be checked?
Yes, references are checked during the selection process provided approval has been obtained from the candidate either on the application form or during the selection process.
