May 17, 2023 (Mount Pearl, NL) – Tonight, the City of Mount Pearl held its 33rd Annual Focus on Youth Awards to recognize the accomplishments of its top youth in the areas of arts, sports, science, self-improvement, and volunteerism. The event was held at the Glacier Arena and hosted by 2022 Youth of the Year Award winner, Jason Hunt. The awards are available to watch on the City of Mount Pearl’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

“Right here in Mount Pearl, our young generation is brimming with talent. They are the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers of our community,” said Mayor Dave Aker. “We remain committed to nurturing and supporting our youth throughout the year, and this celebration means a lot to all of us. On behalf of council, I congratulate all nominees and winners. The future is bright in Mount Pearl.”

The winners of the 33rd Focus on Youth Awards include:

Youth of the Year Award – Alexander Fahey and Grace Lee
Athlete of the Year Award – Kailey Murrin and Chris Weeks
Sport Team of the Year Award – MPSA Girls Under 15 (Tier 2) Soccer Team
Youth Volunteer of the Year Award – Alexander Corbett
Youth in Service Award – Alexander Fahey
Performing Arts Group Recognition Award – O’Donel High Drama Club and MPSH Production “Into the Woods”
Performing Arts Individual Award – Summer Bennett
Visual Arts Award – Argeline Cabral
Literary Arts Recognition Award – Brianna Fleming
S.T.E.M. Award – Eric Goulding
Youth Group of the Year Award – O’Donel High School First Responders

About the Focus on Youth Awards:

The Focus on Youth Awards is an annual banquet and show hosted by the City of Mount Pearl. This year, the gala featured performances by Alex Taylor, Summer Bennett, Amy Rowsell, Mount Pearl Senior High, and the O’Donel High Drama Club.
