Youth Drop-In Centre

The City of Mount Pearl is proud to provide our young residents space located in the Reid Community Centre and the Gloria Pearson Community Centre. These spaces include a place to hang out with friends, play some games, take advantage of time in our gymnasiums, and participate in a diverse array of programs offered by the Youth Services Team. Like all City of Mount Pearl facilities, we celebrate diversity and inclusion at these centers and encourage young people to take advantage of this free space offered to them.

Programs are designed for youth 13 to 18 years of age. Enjoy hanging with friends and peers in a safe and fun environment.

Reid Community Centre (126 Smallwood Drive)

Attached to the Summit Centre. Enter and Exit using the Youth Centre entrance via the door facing the Mount Pearl Library.

Youth Drone Builders & Racing Program (Ages 6–18)

Location: Gloria Pearson Community Centre
Schedule: Mondays, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Program Duration: September – August
Registration: August 25 for Mount Pearl residents; August 27 for non-residents
Cost: Free

Take your skills to new heights in this exciting year-long drone program designed for children
and youth ages 6–18. Participants will explore the world of drone technology through hands-on
learning, flight training, drone building, and competitive racing.

Throughout the program, participants will learn about drone components, safety procedures,
flight mechanics, and maintenance while developing valuable STEM skills. As the season
progresses, they will race and repair their shared racing drones, improve their flying abilities,
and put their skills to the test through organized racing events and competitions.

Program Schedule

September – December: Drone Fundamentals & Flight Training
Introduction to drone technology and safety
Learning about drone components and equipment
Basic drone building and maintenance
Flight simulators and beginner flight instruction
Developing piloting skills and confidence

January – June: Advanced Learning & Indoor Racing
Continued drone theory and technical skills
Drone assembly, repairs, and customization
Race preparation and piloting techniques
Indoor drone racing sessions in the gymnasium
Race gate tracks, time trials, and friendly competition

July – August: Track Building & Summer Racing
Designing and building drone racing tracks
Learning course setup and race management
Advanced racing strategies
Team and individual racing events
End-of-season showcase and championship races

Youth Opportunity Fund Foundation

Helping Youth…Help Themselves

The Mount Pearl Youth Opportunity Fund Foundation is now accepting applications. This community youth foundation will provide funds to formal and informal groups, non-profit and charitable organizations, community-based groups, public sector and neighbourhood associations that are incorporated as not-for-profit agencies.

The Foundation will provide time-limited project funding only, that focuses on “youth helping youth” – empowering youth through new and innovative opportunities.
